When I installed my fast charger, I assumed the rest would follow. It didn’t: for the first few weeks the charger sat idle more often than not. What I changed afterwards is what actually grew my profit. These are the five levers that paid off the most.
1. Use discounts, memberships and reservations
The biggest jump came when I stopped charging one flat rate for everyone. With Proxilink I give passers-by a sharp QR rate with no e-MSP fees, offer regular customers a membership (monthly fee + discount per kWh) and rent out busy time slots through reservations. That way I don’t just earn per session — I build recurring income.
That mix creates predictability: memberships cover part of my fixed costs before the month’s first session, and invoicing is fully automatic.
2. Connect to more roaming hubs for extra visibility
Your charger is only as profitable as the number of people who find it. Alongside your own QR channel, it pays to be visible in the big charging apps. Make sure your charge point is correctly shared with data aggregators and roaming hubs such as Eco-Movement, which distribute charging data to dozens of apps and navigation systems.
The more channels show your charger — with correct location, price and availability — the more passers-by you attract. Extra visibility costs you nothing per session but delivers extra sessions.
3. Promote your charger in local social media groups
Don’t underestimate your neighbourhood. I posted a short message in a few local Facebook and community groups: where the charger is, what the rate is, and that you can charge instantly via QR without an app. Within days the first new users showed up.
Local EV drivers actively look for a reliable, fixed charging spot near home or work. One good post can win you a handful of regulars — exactly the profile that later takes a membership.
4. Add your charger to your Google Business Profile
Many people search “EV charger near me” straight on Google Maps. Create (or use) a Google Business Profile for your charging location, with photos, opening hours and the rate. That puts you on the map when someone nearby searches.
It’s free and brings in local traffic that would otherwise go to the competitor down the road. Add a link to your reservation or QR page so people can book or charge right away.
5. Offer multiple payment options
Every payment hurdle is a missed session. Let people pay the way they want: Bancontact, credit card and the common digital methods. With QR payment via Proxilink a passer-by charges instantly, with no app or registration.
The less friction, the more completed sessions. A driver who can’t pay smoothly won’t come back a second time.
In short
Profit from a fast charger rarely comes from the hardware alone. The combination of smart pricing and memberships (Proxilink), maximum visibility (roaming + Google + social) and frictionless payment made the difference for me.
